Dheisha Refugee Camp, West Bank

So, Dheisha is a large Palestinian refugee camp in the west bank. How I ended up visiting here is quite interesting, I was in Jerusalem eating lunch by myself, when another older lady came in and was seated at my table. A french woman living in san francisco. after talking a long time about dheisha and politics, she invited me to come check it out, esp becuase their famous dance troupe was going to perform for the italians visiting. so there i ran into the “caravan”, a huge italian/european group helping Palestinian children by playing football (soccer) with them. amazing people, and also, an acting/filming crew from ny.

first off though, i’m going ot start with pictures from the border. i DO NOT recommend you to be like me and WALK through the border at MIDNIGHT, with no transportation prepared on either side. you can see, its not exactly the most pleasant border/customs you want to go through…

and now, a little boy who took me over to his house, which was in shambles (the following picture)

a few more pictures from around the refugee camp

the most un-majestic, security inducing UN presence….

a few pics of pictures framed on a wall showing how things were before…

the dance troupe and a rap group the guys formed. i didn’t need to know arabic to figure out what they were pouring out their hearts for
